Charcoal has always been a popular medium, whether you’re doing preliminary sketches or detailed drawings.  It is so versatile.  It’s available in the deepest of blacks to the lightest of greys (even tinted) and available in compressed, vine or pencil form. Coates Brand, Derwent and General’s seem to be the most popular.  And… you might also like pastels.  They’re available in just about any colour and soft pastels have a chalk base.  Some people prefer oil pastels, they’re not as messy.  We stock Winsor & Newton, Conte, Pentel and PRISMACOLOR ’ s Nupastel.
